Nonprofit organisations are not commonly referred to as "NGOs." Although some nations identify their own civil society organisations as NGOs, the term "NGO" is typically only applied to organisations that operate on a global scale. NGOs engage in a variety of activities, such as human rights, social, and environmental activism. On a large or small scale, they can seek to advance social or political change. NGOs are essential to the growth of society, the enhancement of communities, and the encouragement of citizen participation.
